Gaios

Gaios is the main village of Paxos. Rare among Greek islands, the little flagstoned square with its church and pink and white oleanders is right on the water. Yachts from all nations moor close to the square. The village is a maze of narrow streets lined with an assortment of little shops. Gladstone came here when Paxos was a British Crown Colony. Cleopatra sailed by on her way to Rome. Tavernas and bars provide a warm and friendly atmosphere in which to relax in the sun or shade, while enjoying a cool drink. A host of attractive bays and coves lie nearby. Boats, to reach the sandy beaches of AntiPaxos, depart from the square every morning.

The charm of Paxos...

The charm of Paxos lies in the friendliness of its people, in the beauty of its beaches, valleys of cypress trees, wild flowers and olive-clad hills.
