Shamballa is just a ten minute walk from the small port of Vathy, one of the island’s two ports on the north coast.

Vathy has waterfront tavernas, a grocery shop and a bakery. The nearby port of Spilia has two minimarkets and more waterfront tavernas. The evening’s entertainment tends to centre on visiting yachts jostling for position with local fishing boats.

Shamballa has been built and designed to the exacting ideals of a British couple, who have searched the Ionian islands for a hidden spot to have comfort, privacy, a surrounding natural and beautiful landscape and dramatic views of the sea. Bordered by olive and pine trees, the house has a secluded hillside position overlooking a sheltered bay, across the sea to the mountains on the Greek mainland and is a five minute walk from the nearest beach. Abelaki Bay has two good tavernas just above the water.

Modern and comfortably furnished interiors open out on to a selection of private terraces to capture sun and shade and the plunge pool/Jacuzzi has the best views of the bay below.

Car hire can be arranged but as the port of Vathy is just a ten minute walk away, we recommend the hiring of a boat (with outboard engine) to explore the coastline of beaches, many of which can only be reached by sea.
