On the largest island of the Faroes, Streymoy, sits Torshavn.  Torshavn is a perfect base from which to see most of the islands and the two best hotels on the island, the four star Foroyar  and the three star Torshavn are located here.  A very good road network, with several long undersea tunnels, links the islands of Vagar, Eysturoy, Bordoy, Kunoy and Vidoy.  The island of Sandoy and the southernmost island of Suduroy can be reached from Torshavn by ferry in 40 minutes and 2 hours respectively.  Nolsoy, home to the largest colony of Sorm Petrels shelters the port of Torshaven and is a 20 minute boat ride across the waters.
